Habitat for Humanity Okanagan ReStores are social enterprise success story

With a population growth rate outpacing the provincial average and high construction rates, the Okanagan has no shortage of people who want to both dispose of and buy housing goods and materials. ReStores provide a convenient way for customers to donate and source high-quality, affordable items while having a triple bottom line impact: social, environmental and economic.

Since 2013, over 9 million pounds of usable product has been diverted from local landfills by HFHO’s three ReStores. HFHO’s first ReStore, opened in 2013 and in 2014 became the fastest growing in Canada.

HFHO has 285 active volunteers who help with a variety of tasks including sorting, cleaning, stocking, and selling product at ReStores.

If you enjoy active, physical work or are looking for a way to complete your student volunteer hours, volunteer with your local Habitat ReStore and help Habitat for Humanity Okanagan provide a hand up to families in your community. There are locations in Kelowna, West Kelowna and Penticton with a fourth store opening in Vernon Summer 2019. Call 778-755.4346 or visit hfhokanaga.ca.
