breaking ground with families for strength, stability & independence
Habitat for Humanity Okanagan has built and sold 41 homes.

Builds

At Habitat for Humanity Okanagan, we believe in making affordable housing accessible to qualifying families who could not otherwise afford to own a home. We make this possible for our partner families by:

  • Removing barriers that can make owning a home impossible for many working families and individuals
  •  Ensuring Habitat homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are set at no more than 30 percent of their gross household income
  • Collaborating with governments and partners across the housing spectrum, to influence systemic change that creates equitable, sustainable housing solutions

Current Builds

Habitat for Humanity Okanagan just completed 12 homes in Lake Country in 2024.  Stay tuned for news on our next build project!

I always knew that I would do some type of volunteer work when I retired.  I didn’t know what that would be but wanted it to be something different from my regular job.  I attended a career fair and gathered information from a few organizations and  Habitat was the first to contact me so thought I would give it a go.  I have enjoyed helping people to find what they are looking for and interacting with them.  Recently I was assisting an elderly couple and at the end she looked at my name tag and said, ‘You’re a volunteer!’  ‘Yes’ I said and she opened her arms and gave me a big hug.  I have also met a couple of the families assisted by Habitat and it is very heart warming to hear how having a stable home has improved the lives of them and their families.  I love that the building of homes is ongoing from one project to the next – no down time – and from varying communities within the Okanagan.  That is why I am a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.
