Well June has flown by and boy have we been busy. The office staff have attended many community engagement events promoting the You Win We Build 50/50 raffle. We’ve been up, down and around the Valley and our in person presence has been an enormous boost. This has also been an opportunity to promote the ReStores, kitchen salvage and volunteer recruitment. A big thank you to all the event organizers and businesses that have welcomed us to their premises and locations. Thanks to the dedication of all involved the total jackpot of $63,784.00 and is by far the largest total we have ever achieved.
At the end of June, we hosted our Annual General Meeting and our first in person meeting for 4 years! We welcomed three new board members that join us with a wealth of experience, knowledge and skills that will help us to make great strides with our vision and strategic plan. We sadly say goodbye and thank you to Sharon Conway who is stepping down as board chair. Sharon has been a big supporter of Habitat for many years starting as a director on the Vancouver Mid Island board before joining the Okanagan board since moving here in 2013. We will miss her passionate support of our organization and thank Sharon for her contribution to our success.
In July we are hosting members of the Habitat Canada team who are recording the national safety video at two of our ReStores. We are delighted to participate in this important topic, you might see the filming if you visit the Kelowna or West Kelowna stores on the 11th and 12Th July.
Also happening in July, we have all the B.C. affiliate leaders, along with Julia Deans President and CEO of Habitat Canada and Karen Coviello VP of Affiliate Success congregating in West Kelowna for a meeting where we will be discussing how we can make more impact in the province. This visit will take in a tour of ReStores and include a visit to the Lake Country build site.
I’m pleased to share that the 4 plex build is starting to make progress, foundations are laid and framing will start any day soon.
