Volunteer Spotlight: Colleen Stefan

How long have you been volunteering with Habitat for Humanity Okanagan?

I’ve been volunteering with Habitat for Humanity Okanagan since August 2021.

What made you decide to come and volunteer with Habitat?

I decided to volunteer because I felt there was a piece missing in my life. For me, that piece was giving back, but in a way that felt meaningful to me.

What do you enjoy most about your volunteering experience?

I love every part of my volunteering experience – the staff, the other volunteers, the customers… and especially the work I can do. I can volunteer when and for as long as I choose, and I am able to work in the areas that I enjoy the most.

How has volunteer work had an impact on your life?

Volunteering has had a huge impact on my life. It was the missing piece for me. My life has more focus and I love the feeling of belonging. I feel my contribution has a direct and real impact and I know that what I do is appreciated.

What advice would you have for anyone looking to give their time and resources by volunteering?

Do it. At Habitat for Humanity, there is a place for every single contribution of time and effort. You can do as much or as little as you choose, and every effort has a direct impact on the success of this very worthy non-profit.
