For a lot of people, a new year opens up a new chapter in their lives. While many people set New Year’s resolutions to have a better year than they did the year before, it is sometimes difficult to stick to these resolutions. Some people may lose motivation or others realize their schedule doesn’t have space for these resolutions. Not only is it important to make resolutions but it’s equally as important to stick to them (yes, even after the first month of January!) and learn what works for you. Most people seem to give up on their New Year’s resolutions after the first month or so of the new year so hopefully, these tips will help you stay motivated!
Believe in Yourself
Nothing is possible if you don’t believe in yourself. Keep yourself motivated every day. It can even help if you have some social support and encouragement from the ones you love. Talking about your resolutions and experiences with your family and friends can maybe make it easier to accomplish them.
Take it Step by Step
This is an important one! Don’t try to accomplish your goals all at once since it will leave you feeling overwhelmed. You have 365 days to achieve your goals so enjoy the process while you’re at it!
Make Smaller Goals
Maybe keep a journal, track your progress and each day have a specific goal. Give yourself deadlines as to when to meet these smaller goals. When you break up your resolutions, it will seem less intimidating and you are more likely to complete them.
Reward Yourself
Along with taking it one step at a time, it’s also important to reward yourself. This will keep you motivated and will hopefully help you look forward to completing the next goal you have.
Be Realistic
Be honest with yourself and try to set new year’s resolutions that you know are possible to achieve. Try not to overload yourself since this will only make you feel overwhelmed in the long run.
Don’t Beat Yourself Up
If you miss one day of eating healthy or working out in the new year – it’s okay! Small step backs are necessary and bound to happen. Don’t give up completely if something like this happens since nobody’s perfect! It is important, however, to get back up and learn from your mistakes.
