This month, I had the honour and privilege of signing off on my very first Habitat mortgage. It was a moment I won’t soon forget.
Not because it was my first signature, but because I understand everything that signature on a legal document represents.
This family worked incredibly hard to complete their 500 volunteer hours with us, and along the way, they have become part of our Habitat family. For them, this mortgage represents so much more than paperwork. It is the key to a home of their own, a pathway to traditional homeownership, and the peace of mind that comes with knowing they no longer have to worry about the next rental increase or whether they may be asked to move.
It is stability. It is security. And it is a place where they can build memories with their children.
That is the power of a Habitat home.
Next month, when they officially own their home, we will celebrate alongside them. It will be a milestone that reminds us why Habitat’s work matters. Why every volunteer, donor, and supporter plays such an important role in making moments like this possible.
Speaking of which, do you have time, talents, or treasures you would like to share with Habitat Okanagan?
This month’s newsletter will hopefully inspire you to action by highlighting many exciting opportunities coming up this Fall, from joining us for a fun-filled evening at haBOOtat at Predator Ridge, to our Jingle Bell Builds, where you can purchase tickets or connect with us about sponsorship opportunities.
As always, if you’re looking for a meaningful way to support our mission, please consider making a donation or purchasing a ticket in our 50/50 draw. Every contribution helps us build stronger communities and create more opportunities for local families.
