CEO MESSAGE- SEPTEMBER 2021

The last few weeks have been very challenging for many people in our communities.  The fires and evacuations have been a stark reminder that mother nature is a powerful force. The importance of a safe place to call home is brought to the forefront even more during these times.  I hope this message finds you all safe and well.

On our build site the duplex and triplex are finally getting out of the ground at Powley Court and the first triplex is now at the finishing stage, this means that the contractor has handed the building back to us to complete. We are now focusing on painting, installing kitchens, flooring, doors, and trims. We recently hosted a team build of realtors took on the task of priming the dry wall, they had a lot of fun and found it so rewarding they have asked to come back!  If you are interested in participating in a team build on our site please contact Danielle, resourcedevelopment@hfhokanagan.ca.

Despite the intense heat and smoky conditions that we have experienced this summer our volunteers have still been helping in the stores and at events. I want to take this opportunity to thank all our volunteers for their work and loyal support, especially in the extreme environmental conditions.  Now that we are permitted, the ReStores are recognising the volunteers by holding events during the fall, if you are interested in attending, please contact the manager of the ReStore which is local to you for details.

We have finally finished sorting and counting bottles and cans from the July bottle drive, thank you to everyone that helped with this.  We are already planning for the next one that will be held in October, this is the last bottle drive for 2021, stay tuned for details.

We’re preparing to embark on our new 3-year strategic plan, as our current one expires this year.  It has been quite a struggle with the restrictions to organize this in person, but finally, we are going to be working on it during the fall.  Part of this process is an analysis of our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT). If you have any comments regarding our organisation that fit into the SWOT and you would like us to include, please forward them to admin@hfhokanagan.ca by the 30th September.

Have an enjoyable September.
