CEO MESSAGE – May 2021

Hello to May!

I have a couple of HR announcements to start off our May news.

Danielle Smith, our new director or resource development joined us on the 3rd May. Danielle has a strong career in non profit fund development and relocated from Calgary to join us.  Over the last week we have been onboarding and taking her for tours around our wonderful ReStores to introduce her to our staff and volunteers.

Also, at the beginning of May we said goodbye to Madison the assistant manager at the Kelowna store.  Madison has been a big asset to us and we will miss her enthusiasm and passion for Habitat.  We wish the best of luck as she starts her next career journey on the Sunshine Coast.  I’m delighted to announce though that a current employee has been promoted to fill this vacancy.

The count is finally in from the April bottle drive, we raised $6542 including a $300 donation from the Boucherie Bottle Depot.  Our next drive will be the 10th July, so please hang onto your bottles until our next event.

On the build site we now have the first building up and the rough ins for electrical and plumbing are currently being installed. It is great to be on site and see the progress.  If you haven’t yet seen it check out the time lapse video on YouTube.  This video is also being played on the screens in our stores.

We had some great news from Habitat Canada regarding our 2020 statistics which are reported for all 108 ReStores across the country, now it was an unusual year as some stores were forced to close longer than ours in the Okanagan and that isn’t factored in, however here are the highlights:

Volunteer hours                1st West Kelowna 7th Kelowna, 14th  Penticton

Drop off donations           1st Kelowna 2nd West Kelowna 8th Penticton 31st Vernon

Daily transactions             2nd West Kelowna 7th Kelowna 22nd Penticton 32nd Vernon

Gross sales                       10th West Kelowna 15th Kelowna 36th Penticton 62nd Vernon

Both Penticton and Vernon made impressive gains from their previous rankings.

Thank you to the staff, volunteers and donors who have contributed to our success.
