Hello March! I hope there’s lots more sunshine this month, and that winter is now well and truly behind us!
There are a few key highlights in February that I’d like to mention. Firstly, a big thank you to all the Rotary clubs that have contributed funds to our forklift replacement project. This replacement is a major capital expense that we have been putting off due to cost and would otherwise have been purchased with money diverted from our build program. Thanks to Danielle’s work and local Rotary clubs, this expense has been covered. We also have funds pledged to re-furbish another machine too which is fantastic.
The Kelowna home show was a great success for Habitat in many ways. We had two fundraisers running, the chip sheet raffle and our online 50/50. Danielle successfully secured many great prizes from show vendors and other supporters. There were 25 prizes on offer and the team sold an amazing 182 sheets of tickets raising $3,640. The online 50/50 also did well with $3,075 in sales. We had lots of interest in our kitchen salvage program and people working in construction wanting to help with the fourplex in Lake Country. A very busy and productive couple of days with many interactions with the local community. Thank you to everyone that helped over the two days.
The Kelowna ReStore had a historic record sales month for February, well done and thank you to the store staff and to the volunteers that help to process the donations.
On March 25th we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the first Okanagan ReStore here in West Kelowna! There are many great things planned for the day including a BBQ, raffles and cake. Make sure to follow us on our social media for all the details.
Our kitchen salvage cube van has seen better days and we need a new one. With interest in the kitchen salvage program growing, we are in need of a new larger truck that can be dedicated to the program. If you are connected to anyone in the auto industry that may be able to help, please let me know.
The next bottle drive is April 15th, please hang on to your refundable empties and donate them to Habitat. They will be used to help fund our affordable home ownership program.
Have a great March!
Andrea
