Happy New Year!
Hope everyone had an enjoyable festive season.
Awesome and grateful is how I would sum up another very successful year for Habitat for Humanity Okanagan! Thanks to our donors and shoppers the ReStores blasted through their revenue target. This was primarily due to the first quarter performing much better than expected and the stores having many record breaking months. This means that what we have left, after all expenses, will be used to fuel our mission to serve families in need of affordable home ownership, faster. An amazing achievement that wouldn’t be possible without the efforts from all our staff, volunteers and community support.
Considering that we have been severely hampered by the Covid restrictions to host in person events again this year, we have still managed to raise a significant amount. The recent Jingle Bell Build is a great example of how our community came together to participate and raise funds while having fun. A special thank you to Copper Brewing and the Canadian Home Builders Association- Central Okanagan for hosting an event to build some very creative gingerbread houses and launch the Builders Pilsner. A big thank you to everyone that has contributed to our 2021 fundraising campaign.
Our build site is very active again, since restarting after the delay in getting the utilities installed, we are at last seeing progress on the other 2 buildings. Both are now framed with roof trusses and our road now has tarmac. The many team builds that have been on site have really helped with the interior finishing work on the first triplex and now we are ready to install cabinets and flooring.
We have some new and exciting opportunities to work on in 2022 and will keep you posted on our plans.
Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2022.
