Well May didn’t start as I expected! We take good health for granted, so when something happens to affect this, it can stop you in your tracks. I’m fortunate to be blessed with a fantastic team, who despite my absence from the office, allow me to work at home, rest and treat a very painful condition affecting my mobility. Hopefully, I’ll be sat at my office desk again soon!
National volunteer week is a time to formally acknowledge the many volunteers that spend their time helping Habitat in many ways. Some of my team spent this special time visiting each ReStore enjoying lunch and sharing gifts as a token of our gratitude. Thank you for being part of our team and your contribution to our success.
The board members and staff recently spent time discussing our strategic direction for 2025 – 2028. We took time to reflect on our achievements over the last three years including:
- achieving strong financial stability and having zero debt
- fundraising increased by 237% and gaming revenues by 593%
- expansion of our network of sponsors/donors and partnerships – evident in our funds raised i.e. jingle bell build, chip sheet raffle, team builds, grants and donations
- massively increasing our attendance at community events raising awareness, attracting volunteers, partnership interest and fundraising opportunities
- receiving our highest single grant to date of $150K
- increased potential land opportunities
- introducing a new mortgage model to accelerate funding for future builds
- expanding our impact by completing 12 new homes and refurbishing two homes we purchased back
- developing relationships at provincial and municipal levels of government
It was an inspirational day filled with positivity, creative thinking and goal setting as we plan our objectives and work towards our vision for the future. More to come on this as we work though the process.
The Rafflebox 50/50 continues to grow as does the ReStore raffle, both had amazing results in 2024 and this year our sights are set to hit higher jackpots. You’ve got to be in it to win it, get your tickets now!
We recently hosted team builds in our ReStores from Scotia Bank and Valley First. Our stores are a great way to leave the desk behind, connect with your coworkers and do some good in the community. Thank you to these organizations that chose Habitat to do this.
We have an exciting summer ahead, lots of events planned and opportunities to join in the fun. Volunteering in the community is a wonderful way to make friends and have new experiences while helping a good cause. Check out our event calendar for details.
Stay fit and healthy everyone!
