CEO Message – February 2024

Its home show season again and that means the office team and volunteers will be attending shows up and down the valley.  These events are a great way to connect with the community raising awareness of what we do as well as selling 50/50 tickets which we are hoping gets off to a great start. Come and see us this weekend at the Kelowna Home Show where we have many fantastic prizes to be won.

Our stores have recently been re-organized and are ready for your donations, we are in need of all types of products including: furniture, books, housewares, tools and building materials.  If you are preparing for your spring cleaning please consider donating to Habitat, you are helping us to build homes and you’ll receive a tax receipt, it’s a win, win!

Are you thinking about replacing your kitchen?  We have a beautiful designer kitchen, worth $50,000 that’s being donated to Habitat by our fabulous supporter Norelco Cabinets. Check out the details of our luxury kitchen auction.

The dry wall is almost completed at the project in Lake Country, this means we are ready for team builds and individuals that want to participate.  Helping on the build is not just good for Habitat its also a very enjoyable experience and its how I first got involved with Habitat by working on site at both the Peachland and Vernon projects. Thankfully I did, as everyday I now get to enjoy being part of an organization that is passionate about providing affordable housing.  If you or your organization is interested, please contact Courtney to register.

We all know that affordable housing is a BIG topic and changes need to happen.  At the beginning of March President and CEO of Habitat Canada Julia Deans is keynote speaker at the Canadian Home Builders Association Central Okanagan Housing Summit.  The goal of the summit is to unite diverse groups, fostering collaboration and formulating cross-sector actions for positive changes in our community’s housing availability. Looking forward to a packed agenda to discuss how collaboratively we can all make a difference.

Have a wonderful and fun filled family day weekend!
